She started off in Bollywood at a very young age and, with her unconventional looks, has been acknowledged as one of the most talented actresses in the industry today. She is the perfect example of beauty with brains. With a National Award in her kitty, Kangna Ranaut is well on her way to becoming one of Bollywood's greatest actresses of all time.
Here is a pictorial tribute to the supremely talented Kangna Ranaut, who will be seen next in 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai', to be released on July 30, 2010.
Kangna Ranaut was born on 23 March, 1987.
After her schooling in Chandigarh, she joined a science course in Simla, and wanted to become a doctor.
Kangna later joined the Elite Modelling Agency in Delhi, to pursue a career in modelling.
She subsequently joined the Asmita Theatre Group and trained under eminent theatre director, Arvind Gaur.
"I joined a group called Asmita, and did two plays there - 'Madhavi' and 'Rakht Kalyan'. As I was still unsure of what I wanted to do, I began sending photographs of myself to advertising agencies. I even took up classes in French because I thought of shifting to Paris, where models have always had a chance," says she.
Kangna made her debut in Bollywood with Anurag Basu's 'Gangster', co-starring Emraan Hashmi and Shiny Ahuja. Her performance in the film was applauded.
She then did her next film, 'Woh Lamhe', said to be based on the life of Parveen Babi.
Some of Kangna's other must watch films include Anurag Basu's 'Life In a... Metro' 'Fashion' and 'Raaz... the Mystery Continues'.
She has won the National Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress, for her role in 'Fashion', in which she portrayed a troubled model.
"There's a mini celebration in my house, though my parents were crying when they heard about it. At 23, I seem to have cracked the highest cultural award for the country. What more can I do? I should just pack up and go back to my home in Himachal (Pradesh) now with my parents," said Kangna, after she won the National Award
Kangna has also done projects in the South, such as Puri Jagannadh's Telugu film, 'Ek Niranjan' and the Tamil film, 'Dhaam Dhoom'.
Some of her upcoming projects include 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai', 'No Problem', 'Tanu Weds Manu' and 'Crooked'.
She is also set to play the negative role of Ursula in the Bollywood remake of 'The Little Mermaid', co-starring Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Imran Khan.
Kangna was also co-brand ambassador for Levis Jeans with Akshay Kumar.
Though she has done great films, and is known to have raw talent, Kangna has, more-often-than-not, been in the news for all the wrong reasons.
Her alleged affair with director Aditya Pancholi served as fodder for many gossip mongers and tabloids for a long time. She has also been linked with Upen Patel.
Kangna has previously dated her 'Raaz' co-star, Adhyayan Suman.
"My biggest asset is that I know how to learn and that, I believe will help me in the long run," says Kangna, who has perfected the "shades of gray" character in her films.
A known fashionista, her dressing sense and elegant beauty has attracted several eyeballs, both on and off screen.
