The Lok Sabha member from Rampur and former film actress Jayaprada on Sunday met chief minister K Rosaiah at his residence. On record, Jayaprada told media after the meeting that it was just a courtesy call. "I am visiting the state after a long time and I had not met Rosaiah garu after he became chief minister," she said.
But this meeting assumes importance since there were speculations that Jayaprada, who was expelled from Samajwadi party in February last, has been planning to stage a come back to state politics.
It is not yet clear whether she would like to join the Congress party or get back to TDP where she was made president of the mahila wing and was also sent to Rajya Sabha. Jayaprada had held negotiations with some senior TDP leaders in the recent past to explore the possibility of her home coming. Though the party top leadership may not be opposed to it, there was some resistance from the second rung leadership and even the women activists in the party.
Her possibility of joining Congress party is also not ruled out as her mentor Amar Singh is known to be close to Congress leadership at Centre. Sunday's meeting with the chief minister could be an attempt to gauge the mood inside the party, say some Congress leaders.
