Bangladesh PM gets death threat from militants

Islamist militants have threatened to kill Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina if their associates are not freed from prison within a month.
skhasinaIn a letter to a jailor, they also threatened to bomb the jail in Chittagong where their 27 associates, including the chief of the banned Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) are lodged.
The jailor of the Chittagong Central Jail, Rafiqul Quader, received the letter around 1 p.m. Wednesday. Chittagong is about 260 km from the capital Dhaka.
The letter reads Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina survived “this year’s Aug 15, but she will not be alive in future as she will also be blown to smithereens”.
Quader told The Daily Star that a person called Abdul Mannan has sent the letter with the return address as West Ghoramara, Pakka Mashjid, Kumira, Sitakunda, Chittagong.
They also threatened to bomb police stations, the official added.
The group that issued the threat claimed themselves to be members of the JMB’s suicide squad.
There have been several known attempts on Sheikh Hasina’s life. She moved from her home to a more secure government house after taking office two years ago. Her government has been vigorously pursuing the Islamist and Maoist militants in the country.
