KANIGIRI (Prakasam): A local court in Kanigiri on Friday directed the police to book a case against senior IAS officer K Ratna Prabha for allegedly threatening a woman of Hanumanthunipadu village near Kanigiri.
The victim, K Vatsala, filed a private petition in the local court seeking protection from Ratna Prabha, principal secretary, IT & ITeS. The complainant said the IAS officer had been calling on phone for the past few months and threatening her with dire consequences if she did not part with her property. She produced SMSes sent by the official to her mobile as evidence.
After going through the records, the court ordered the police to investigate into the case and book criminal intimidation charges against the IAS officer. Sources said the dispute between Ratna Prabha and Vatsala, a native of Chittoor district, began after the IAS officer suspected the role of her husband K Vidyasagar, also an IAS officer, in helping the woman purchase a huge piece of property in Hanumanthunipadu.
Sources said Ratna Prabha developed differences with her husband on the issue. Finding the going difficult in Hyderabad, Vatsala shifted to her village of Hanumanthunipadu in Kanigiri constituency after purchasing a farm house and living there alone. Suspecting that the farm house was purchased by Vidyasagar, Ratna Prabha began sending the threatening SMSes to the woman.
Curiously, Vatsala did not mention the name of Vidyasagar or her contact with the officer in her petition before the court. Vidyasagar is presently principal secretary, BC welfare department.
Meanwhile, Kanigiri inspector Subbareddy said that they were still to receive the directive from the court.
The estranged IAS couple, Vidyasagar and Ratna Prabha, are close relatives of former chief secretary K Madhava Rao. Ratna Prabha, originally a Karnataka-cadre IAS officer, is continuing in AP armed with the tribunal orders.
