Monica Dogra may have bagged the lead in an Aamir Khan film and she may be the lead singer of a popular band, but that doesn’t stop her from hailing a cab when she wants to make quick trips across the city. She did just that the other day and no, she did not get recognised.
“That kind of recognition is yet to hit me,” she laughs. The response to the promos of her upcoming film have been fantastic and she says she confident, no, hopeful about the film. “It is a different film. But there’s no way the junta will not know about it because it makes you feel things. And isn’t that what the audience wants anyway?” she asks.
Ask her if she is more recognised as a singer or an actor these days and she quips, “You know, I understand that so far there haven’t been many people who could sing and act, but I can. I’m trained in dance, drama and music and I’ve done musical theatre throughout my life. So, just because I’m doing a film doesn’t mean music will take a backstage and vice-versa. The film also represents new age movies in India so I feel lucky to be a part of this movement and more importantly I’m recognised as an artist.”
There is a buzz about Dogra having shot for some intimate scenes with Aamir for the film.
Ask her how did she manage the shoot with Aamir’s director wife Kiran Rao behind the camera and she says, “I cannot confirm the status of the supposedly steamy scenes but I must say that Kiran and Aamir are this fabulous couple who share an incredible relationship. Their talents combined make them a really powerful couple. They’re a strong couple and Kiran’s very secure with Aamirs love for her. And he’s a wonderful person too. So basically I was more aware of the fact that I was shooting with Aamir and his wife more than anything else,” she ends.
