KADAPA/VIZIANAGARAM: A day after the byelection results would be announced on May 13, YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy would resume his controversial Odarpu yatra in Vizianagaram district.
"I would be resuming my yatra on May 14. I had to temporarily call off the yatra because of the election code. Now, I would go back to Vizianagaram to call on the members of the families who had died after my father's demise," Jagan told TOI.
Sources said Jagan's close follower and former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy is co-ordinating with the local leaders in Vizianagaram to chart out the yatra route. Jagan launched his yatra on March 28 but put it off soon after the announcement of bypolls to Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula assembly constituencies by the Election Commission.
He had toured the district for three days of the scheduled nine days. "Now, the remaining six days of the yatra has been extended to nine days to cover the entire 580 km in the district," party sources said. As per original schedule, he was to cover four municipalities and 30 mandals in nine constituencies of the district.
But now, more number of villages were added to showcase his strength among the people in the state. Sources said several villages fall in minister Botsa Satyanarayana's stronghold areas.
Not only Jagan's supporters, even opposition parties and the ruling Congress are looking forward to this tour to assess his strength in the district. Former MP Penmetsa Sambasivaraju and former Congress leader Peddinti Jaganmohan Rao are conducting several meetings with Jagan loyalists ahead of the yatra.
