Harbhajan Singh entered the record books with a scintillating back-to-back Test century in the seventh over of the fourth morning of the second Test against New Zealand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here today.
He turned the tables completely in India's favour by guiding it to a commanding 472 runs. India, which began the day at 436 for nine wickets, established a handsome lead of 122 runs.
The Turbanator remained unconquered at 111 that came off 114 balls and comprised of seven hits to the fence and an equal number of hits over the ropes.
India lost its last wicket when S Sreesanth (24) was caught plumb in front to give the hard-working Daniel Vettori his fifth wicket of the innings.
Continuing his terrific form and showing no signs of being caught in the nervous nineties syndrome, Harbhajan launched a blistering attack against Vettori, whom he lofted for a glorious six to go to 97. Making mincemeat of the attack, the run-a-ball innings was laced with enterprising shots all over the wicket.
The unsung hero was undoubtedly, Sreesanth who gave admirable support by giving his senior partner the strike after nudging for singles here and there.
The tenth wicket pair added 105 runs, which is India's best against New Zealand.
