P.V. Srinijin, son-in-law of former chief justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan, Wednesday said he was prepared to face any probe on allegations that he had amassed illegal wealth.

Srinijin, a former Youth Congress vice-president who quit from the organisation earlier in the day, issued a statement in the evening and said that he was prepared to face any probe which may be ordered by his party or the government.
“I acquired the property by taking bank loans and both I and my wife are solely responsible for that. It was most unfortunate to link the name of my father-in-law to this and please don’t haunt him,” said Srinijin, a lawyer by profession.
Retired Supreme Court judge V.R. Krishna Iyer earlier launched an attack on him after some news reports said that Balakrishnan’s relatives had acquired illegal wealth.
Iyer demanded an investigation into how Srinijin acquired immense wealth in just three years.
He dared Balakrishnan, currently chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, to break his silence. He asked Balakrishnan to quit the rights panel and face a judicial probe.
Srinijin was a Congress candidate in the 2006 assembly polls and at that time he had filed a statement which showed that he virtually had no assets.
In a span of four years, he and his wife, according to news reports, acquired several properties and vehicles.
Kerala government’s home department has launched a vigilance probe against Srinijin after getting a letter from Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan.
