The Sensex having pared some of its gains, continues to trade on a flat note amid choppy session. Realty stocks fell the most followed by metal, power and capital goods, while IT and teck gained.
At 3.03 p.m., the Sensex was trading up 15.58 points or 0.08% at 18,876.02 with 12 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 1.80 points or 0.03% at 5,652.75 with 32 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 50.99 points or 0.27% at 18,911.43, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 5.75 points or 0.10%, at 5,648.80.
Sensex Movers
Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed rise of 32.33 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys Technologies (28.33 points), I T C (13.89 points), Tata Consultancy Services (12.9 points) and Bharti Airtel (7.59 points).
However, Sterlite Industries (India) contributed fall of 16.45 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Reliance Infrastructure (13.67 points), I C I C I Bank (12.63 points), Larsen & Toubro (10.56 points) and Reliance Industries (10.52 points).

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Housing Development Finance Corporation (3.05%), Cipla (1.71%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.56%), Infosys Technologies (1.44%), Bharti Airtel (1.33%), and I T C (1.20%).
On the other hand, Reliance Energy (9.28%), Reliance Communications (5.42%), Jaiprakash Associates (5.29%), Sterlite Industries (India) (4.42%), D L F (3.17%), and Hindalco Industries (2.09%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts declining 1.38% and 1.22% respectively.
The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Alstom Projects India (1.88%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.21%), A B G Shipyard (1.12%), A I A Engineering (0.74%) and Aban Offshore (0.53%).
The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were Aarti Industries (3.48%), Provogue (India) (3.24%), A B G Infralogistics (1.13%), A K Capital Services (0.7%) and Abhishek Industries (0.65%).

The Realty index was at 2,460.97, down by 63.34 points or by 2.51%. The major losers were D B Realty (3.19%), D L F (3.17%), Indiabulls Real Estate (3.01%), Mahindra Lifespace Developers (2.39%) and Anant Raj Industries (1.6%).
The Metal index was at 16,112.43, down by 259.17 points or by 1.58%. The major losers were Hindalco Industries (2.09%), Bhushan Steel (1.43%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.15%), Hindustan Zinc (0.51%) and National Aluminium Company (0.14%).
The Power index was at 2,773.68, down by 37.37 points or by 1.33%. The major losers were Reliance Infrastructure (9.28%), GVK Power & Infrastructure (2.32%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.46%), G M R Infrastructure (0.37%) and A B B (0.12%).
On the other hand, the IT index was at 6,526.63, up by 87.57 points or by 1.36%. The major gainers were Oracle Financial Services Software (3.18%), Core Projects and Technologies (1.76%), Tech Mahindra (1.73%), Infosys Technologies (1.44%) and H C L Technologies (0.97%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 863 advances against 2,025 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Tata Coffee topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,423.52 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 1,106.22 million), Larsen & Toubro (Rs. 1,104.24 million) and Reliance Infrastructure (Rs. 913.60 million).
The volume chart was led by Comfort Intech with trades of over 7.99 million shares. It was followed by Cals Refineries (7.68 million), Suzlon Energy (4.43 million) and Ispat Industries (4.23 million).
