For a Vishal Bhardwaj film, 7 Khoon Maaf has taken a shockingly dull opening at the box office. Is the film headed to a premature death at ticket windows? Read on... The movie, starring Priyanka Chopra as a woman who murders six husbands in her fatal quest for love, saw a 20 to 30 percent response at multiplexes. At some centres the response was as low as 10 percent.
Greater footfalls were never expected in the first place at single screen theatres for a dark film like this and the response there remained between 10 to 20 percent. On top of it, the mixed reviews by the critics - some praising it, others trashing it - may not give out positive vibes about the film.
Meanwhile, last week’s release Patiala House rounded off its first week with a collection of Rs. 23.25 crores, which is very low for an Akshay Kumar film. But given the fact that 7 Khoon Maaf isn’t pulling as much crowd to theatres as it was expected to, Patiala House may survive a little longer at theatres.
Sudhir Mishra’s Yeh Saali Zindagi rounded off its second week with a total collection of Rs. 10.75 crores.
The coming Friday would see the release of the Kangana Ranaut and Madhavan-starrer Tanu Weds Manu.
