The buzz surrounding Kasab

The court room no. 49 of the Bombay High Court was jam packed on Monday, with an abnormally high number of media persons and lawyers unconnected with the case, but interested in knowing the fate of India’s prized catch; Ajmal Amir Kasab. A few minutes prior to the proceedings, a court employee came in with a bulky document -- media persons rightly guessed it to be over a 1000 page document -- and kept it on the dias before the judges took seat.
Perhaps, the judges were as eager as the media persons, the police officials attached to the Mumbai police Crime Branch and the lawyers connected with Kasab’s confirmation case. Both the judges entered the courtroom sharply at 11:00 AM.
Justice Desai, who presided over the division bench, took a look at the video conferencing screen, ensured that the accused Kasab is there in front of the camera at the other end -- Arthrur Road Prison, where he has been lodged -- and went on to pronounce the bench’s decision.
Within 20 minutes the proceedings -- pronouncing the verdict, declaring important rulings and explaining its meaning to Kasab – were over.
However, media activities, especially of electronic news channels continued for hours thereafter.
While some camera persons were recording bites of the concerned lawyers, others could be seen recording garlands and flower bouquets laden special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, due to his success.
