Call for bandh in Seemandhra

VIJAYAWADA/KAKINADA: The assault on Lok Satta chief Jayaprakash Narayan in the assembly evoked strong reactions from coastal and Rayalaseema districts. Condemning the incident, the Seemandhra joint action committee called for a bandh of educational institutions in the region on Friday.

onvenor Adari Kishore Kumar said in Vizag on Thursday that students of all the 14 universities in the Seemandhra region would stage marches and rallies in protest against the attack on JP. He called upon the educational institutions to make the bandh a total success.

Lok Satta activists took out processions in Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Guntur, Eluru, Bhimavaram, Tadepalligudem, Narsaraopet, Vizag and other towns in protest agains the attack on their leader.

"It is not an attack on an individual. It is an attack on democracy," said JAC convenor Kolanukonda Sivaji. Political JAC chairman N Samuel charged TRS with resorting to violent means to take political and financial advantages from their stir.

Seemandhra Sangharshana Samithi convenor Naraharisetty Srihari said they would not remain quiet if the TRS leaders continue attacks on Seemandhra MLAs and leaders. At a small village of Gollapalli in Nuzivid, the home constituency of MLC Paladugu Venkatrao, people staged a rasta roko in protest against the attack on him.

In Guntur, Congress leaders burnt an effigy of TRS chief KCR in protest against the attack on JP and Paladugu. Senior TDP leader Yanamala Ramakrishnudu condemned the attack as a `dark day in democracy.' Former minister Chikkala Ramachandra Rao said the assault on JP deserves all-round condemnation.
