New Delhi: With barely two weeks to go before the all-important World Cup, Indian cricket team is having some tense moments as swing bowler Praveen Kumar, who suffered an elbow injury during the South Africa tour, now close to being ruled out for the mega event.
Praveen, undergoing treatment at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore , would now need to go to England for further treatment - a final call on his availability in World Cup would be taken after the medical check-ups in England.
Praveen was rushed back home midway through the ODI series so that he could get back to shape before India start their World Cup campaign on February 19 against Bangladesh.
However, the 24-year-old bowling all-rounder, who will be playing in his first World Cup, appeared all geared up for what surely would be his most important outing till date. Earlier today, he was quoted as saying: "I am feeling pretty good now. The rehab programme is on the right track and hopefully I will strike a good rhythm before the tournament starts."
Surely, India’s campaign is bracing through rough weather even before the start of the tournament. Besides Praveen, three of their top batsmen – Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir – are also nursing injuries, with their status being assessed.
