Kolkata The Maoists have brought out a list of its “women martyrs”, which includes the name of Tapasi Mallick, who was raped and murdered allegedly by CPM men during the anti-land acquisition stir in Singur.
Tapasi, an activist of Singur Krishi Jami Raksha Committee, was well known in the area as a Trinamool Congress member. In its list of women martyrs, the CPI-Maoists described her as a member of its students’ organisation.
The list has 19 names of the rebel group’s women activists from Bengal who have been killed since the Naxalbari movement started. It is published in a two-part book called Women Martyrs of Indian Revolution.
When contacted, Tapasi’s father Manoranjan Mallick said, “I cannot comment on the matter.”
According to the book, all the 19 women killed in the state were residents of Lalgarh in West Midnapore and most of them were rebels.
