Trevor Bailey, the cricketer who has died aged 87, was England's leading all-rounder after the Second World War and known as Barnacle Bailey on account of his dedication to the forward defensive stroke; he subsequently made a living from the game as an author, journalist and (for more than 30 years) commentator on Test Match Special.
