New Delhi: As Uttar Pradesh gets ready to vote in the first phase of elections on Wednesday, CNN-IBN takes a look at all the star campaigners cutting across party lines, who'll be hoping to have made a difference in the minds of the voter. The Congress being led by Rahul Gandhi is trying to revive the party, holding road shows and more than hundreds public rallies across the state.
And taking on Rahul is Akhilesh Yadav, heir to Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. Akhilesh, first off the block touring the state for the last six months as Samajwadi Party worked hard on an image make over.
The two young leaders had come face to face the first time in 2009 by-elections when Congress's Raj Babbar defeated Akhilesh Yadav's wife from Firozabad.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has been the last one to hit the campaign track but remains the star vote catcher for the BSP. And denying ticket to more than a hundred MLAs, Mayawati has tried to neutralise anti-incumbency working against her.
The BJP though has not not declared a Chief Minister candidate for Uttar Pradesh but is relying on Uma Bharti and OBC upper caste combination for its revival while its star campaigner Narendra Modi has so far kept himself away from electioneering.
