The city's buses and trains are more crowded than usual today, with 85,000 taxis and one lakh auto-rickshaws keeping off the roads since midnight.
Auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers are demanding a hike in fare because of the recent increase in the prices of CNG. The strike has been called by one union, but other taxi and auto-rickshaw operators will not ply fearing violence.
Mumbai's Transport Commissioner is expected to meet the unions today to find a solution.
In Delhi, a revised fare structure is expected to be announced today.
