Colombo: The spectators, who were detained for jeering Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh at the oval stadium, have been released after being handed a warning by the police.
The three youngsters were detained by the police for taunting the Indian cricketer here yesterday when he was carrying drinks during the break after the tea session. An agitated Yuvraj gestured back and pointed one of his fingers even as the organisers tried to calm him down.
Yuvraj subsequently complained to the Indian team management about the incident and manager Ranjib Biswal took up the issue with the local authorities. "The police was asked to intervene and the situation was brought under control.
"The issue is closed. We have additional security in those areas.
We had meetings with the Indian cricket officials and the ICC''s Anti Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) chief in this regard," Perera said. "We asked the spectators to just enjoy the match and cooperate in preventing any such incidents," he said.
