The Begumpet area in the city faced a one-and-a-half hour power cut between 1 am and 2.30 am on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. Other areas like Kukatpally and parts of Secunderabad (around Paradise) too faced power cuts on Sunday and Monday, though for short durations.

A source in the central discom office said CPDCL is now in a hurry to finish the installation of many sub-stations and new lines that have found a mention in the 100-day plan. "To ensure that they they finish the work of installation and upgradation of transformers on time, the discom has to switch off power in the area until work is over," said the source. Discom officials said that Begumpet area faces power interruptions mostly due to transformer maintenance work which they take up regularly, leading to 15 to 60 minute power cuts on any given day.

Significantly, as part of the ambitious 100-day plan, the discom has decided to commission 12 sub-stations at Hakeempet kunta, Malakpet gunj, Mayurinagar, IICT, Mothimahal, Boduppal, Kims, Nagole, RR district court, Jalpally, Errummanzil Colony and at Hyderabad Public School. Work to enhance power transformer capacities, underground cables and air bunched cable is also currently underway in the city.

Meanwhile, central discom officials said that these power interruptions are only temporary and the discom is looking at providing uninterrupted, reliable and quality power supply to the consumers shortly.
