In a setback to VK Singh, the Supreme Court on Friday said that the Army chief has to abide by his commitment and honour his letters of 2008 and 2009 accepting the date of birth as May 10, 1950.
Not being in favour of entertaining Gen Singh's petition, the apex court said it wouldpass an order if Gen Singh did not withdraw his plea.
The apex court also said that recognition of Gen Singh's date of birth as May 10, 1950 by Army does not suffer from perversity and is not grossly erroneous.
The attorney general told the court that government has full faith and confidence in Gen Singh to lead the Army.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has declined to comment on the age controversy of the Army chief even as the apex court looks into the constraint of judicial review
