Keeping Muslim votes in sight and making his own home minister obliquely responsible,Salman Khurshid divulged that Sonia Gandhi cried at Batla House encounter photographs.
While campaigning in Azamgarh for the second phase of elections ,Salman raised the controversial Batla House encounter issue at a time when the Election Commission on Thursday censured Salman Khurshid for his remarks on sub-quota for minorities finding them to be a violation of the model code of conduct for elections.
Salman Khurhid said "I took the batla House encounter issue to Congress president Sonia Gandhi inspite of not having any ministerial position and when she heard and saw the images of the incident she cried bitterly "
The incident was so grave that a judicial probe into the Batla House encounter was announced .
The 2008 Batla House encounter against suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorists took place in Jamia Nagar, Delhi, in which two suspected terrorist, Atif Amin and Mohamed Sajid were killed while two others Mohd Saif and Zeeshan were arrested, while one accused Ariz Khan managed to escape.
But general secretary Digvijay Singh has different views on the issue that "Salman must be talking about himself "
Home Minister P. Chidambaram had rejected Singh's demand for a fresh probe into the 2008 Batla House shootout, saying there was "no scope" for it and the gunbattle was genuine.
