Prime Minister seeks AG's opinion on apex court 2G order

,
After the cancellation of 2G licences by the Supreme Court last week, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has stepped in to look at the government's options. Singh met the attorney general and telecom minister Kapil Sibal to discuss the judgment.
So is the government likely to file a review petition?

In case it does, in its review petition, the government would put first-come-first-serve (FCFS) criteria under scrutiny. Department of Telecom has also sought for attorney general's views on review. Meanwhile, the government is finalising blueprint for SC judgment fallout.

The Indian Prime Minister has asked attorney general to reply on this matter within a week. Singh is looking for advice on existing practices, action against officials and on whether any review petition is needed.

After the Supreme Court order on cancellation of 122 second generation licences, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) started the procedure of auction of 2G spectrum. The regulator has issued a pre-consultation paper welcoming views of all stakeholders on February 3.
