With nine sisters, Raksha Bandhan has always been a special day for the TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao. Every year he has to shell out considerable sums of money to his sisters who tie rakhis on him.
KCR’s parents, Mr Raghava Rao and Mrs Venkatamma had 11 children, of them two boys, KCR and his elder brother. His elder brother deceased a long time ago and KCR is the only male in the family. All his nine sisters gather at his residence to celebrate Rakhi every year. This year, the festival was extra special for KCR as the party MP, Ms Vijayashanti, joined the contingent of his sisters and tied a rakhi on him. Keeping up with the Telangana tradition of gifting money to one’s sisters on Rakhi, KCR gifted Ms Vijayashanti `1 lakh after she tied the rakhi and offered sweets to him.
KCR drove to Ms Vijayashanti’s residence where Raksha Bandan was celebrated by TRS activists with gaiety. “I need `10 lakh to gift all my sisters. I have nine sisters and Vijayashanti is the tenth one,” said KCR.
He wished all success to the Medak MP and prayed for a great political career for her in the future. When he returned to his residence, he was greeted by his other sisters who gathered to tie rakhis along with the party’s women workers. Sources close to the TRS chief, however, said that he had gifted smaller amounts to his sisters and not `1 lakh as he had gifted Ms Vijayashanti.
