Telangana Congress MPs call on Andhra colleagues

,
Best of the Week – Is Telangana to be or not to be?HYDERABAD: At a time when Andhra and Rayalaseema MPs are preparing for their meeting with Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee tomorrow,  their leader Kavuri Sambasiva Rao had unexpected visitors at his residence at Delhi today.A group of Telangana MPs, led by Manda Jagannadham, met the Eluru MP and urged him to agree to option V of the Srikrishna Committee which favoured division of the state.Speaking to mediapersons later, Jagannadham said their meeting with Sambasiva Rao took place in a very cordial atmosphere. "We have told our colleague from Andhra to help divide the state as early as possible. He is a senior MP representing the Andhra region and therefore we chose to call on him," Jagannadham said. The Telangana MPs told the Eluru parliamentarian that it would be better if the people of Telangana and Andhra separate as brothers. "There are several states in the country where people speak the same language and therefore there would not be any problem after formation of two states," Jagannadham said.He said that when they had pressed for a separate Telangana state with Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in the past, the latter had asked them to discuss the issue with their Andhra counterparts. "Chidambaram wanted a kind of consensus on the issue. That is why he suggested we discuss the issue with the Andhra MPs," he said. The Eluru MP, after listening to his Telangana colleagues, told them that he cannot commit himself to anything at present. "He told us that he would have to discuss our plea with his colleagues from Andhra," Jagannadham said.
