Govt may set up JPC to probe 2G scam: Sources

,
New Delhi: A Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) is likely to be formed to investigate the multi-crore 2G spectrum scam, sources have told CNN-IBN. The final decision on forming the JPC, a key demand by the Opposition parties, will be taken at the all-party meeting called by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on February 20.
The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government may finally announce a JPC into the 2G scam by February 22, just one day after Parliament's Budget Session starts. However, the Government has decided against setting up a JPC to investigate Mumbai's Adarsh Housing Society scam and the Commonwealth Games scam. The Opposition has been demanding for a JPC to investigate the 2G, Adarsh as well as the Commonwealth Games scam.
Former telecom minister A Raja has been arrested in connection with the scam after a Comptroller and Auditor General Report claimed that the spectrum licence policy caused a presumptive loss Rs 1.76 lakh crore to the exchequer.
