Junior docs go on flash strike for ‘security’

,
Junior doctors at the Civil Hospital here went on a flash strike on Saturday, after one of the doctors was allegedly assaulted by relatives of a patient who died on Friday night.
The doctors have demanded security for them and also urged the government to bring in a law to make assault on doctors a non-bailable offence.
Around 300 junior doctors joined the strike paralysing the medical services.
However, the hospital authorities described the strike as illegal. According to Dr M M Prabhakar, medical superintendent of Civil Hospital, all efforts were being made to see that no patients suffered due to the strike. “We have called in all senior faculty, other medical teachers and doctors to run the emergency and critical care services.”
Shahnaz Mansuri, 32, had died late on Friday night as she was recuperating at the hospital following a surgery underwent by her 10 days ago. She was a native of Rakhial area. The relatives of the victim along with her husband Ismail Mansuri had an argument with a first year student Nitin Chaudhary and allegedly slapped him.
Chaudhary and the Mansuri have also filed cross complaints with Shahibaug police.
Civil Hospital spokesperson M D Gajjar also said the strike was illegal. “This is an absolutely illegal strike as they have not given anything in written to the dean of B J Medical College or any other hospital authority. This is just an attempt to grapple the hospital to pass the doctor protection law,” Gajjar said.
