HYDERABAD: The state election commission on Tuesday announced the schedule for the biennial elections to the AP state legislative council from graduates and teachers constituencies.
With this announcement, the model code of conduct for the political parties and candidates comes into force with immediate effect in the districts where the polls will be held.
According to CEO Bhanwarlal, the notification for the polls will be issued on February 15. The last date for nominations would be February 22, scrutiny of nominations will take place on February 23, last date for withdrawal will be February 25 and the polls will be held on March 13. Counting of votes will take place on March 15.
The six graduate constituencies that would go to polls are Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam, Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor andKadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool. The three teachers constituencies are Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor, Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool and Mahbubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad.
Since the model code of conduct has come into force in these districts, the ministers, both from central and state, shall not make any official visit. No official of any rank of the districts where polls will be held shall be called to attend any meeting by any minister at any place in the state. If any official meets the minister even on private visit shall be deemed to be guilty of misconduct.
Similarly, no pilot cars with beacon lights of any colour and sirens shall be used by the minister during his private visit to these constituencies even if he has been granted a security cover. No policy announcement or programme related to these constituencies should be initiated by the government.
