Photo: Shanker Chakravarty Congress on Thursday said the Supreme Court order on police action at Ramlila Maidan does not cast any aspersions on either the government or the Home Minister and attacked the BJP for its criticism of the judgement for holding Ramdev guilty of contributory negligence.
"If BJP has any problem with the order, it w
as free to challenge it. They do not even consider an order of the apex court worth obeying and adhering to, it shows their complete disrespect towards Constitution and constitutional institutions," party spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters.
He said that the Congress does not unnecessarily comment on a decision which the apex court has taken in its wisdom. "Those aspects of the Supreme Court order in the public domain do not cast any aspersions on either the government or the Home Minister," he said.
The Congress reaction came close on the heels of the BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar saying that the BJP does not agree with SC order that Ramdev's Bharat Swabhiman Trust should pay 25 per cent of the compensation.
"This is in a way akin to imposing a fine on Ramdev. We do not agree with it. Even the court is diluting the right to protest. We do not agree that Ramdev should be held responsible for contributory negligence," Javadekar said.
The apex court in its verdict today castigated the Delhi Police and the yoga guru for the midnight violent incident at the Ramlila Maidan last year and said it was a glaring example of trust deficit between the people and the government.
